Is there going to be a 2016 fantasy?

Posted by: Ketchup on Friday Mar 11, 2016 at 8:46 p.m. UTC

I am open to change. Let's face it the real issue is that the races have the same basic results week after week. Maybe just maybe the trouble is on the other side..... HeHeHe.... Not likely to see much change there with all the $$$$$ despite the huge dropoff in viewers and the fact that NBC jumps out to commercials. But Hey, Univision shows it straight through...I would not have been near the top no matter.... I missed a week but it is a wonderful group! Merry Christmas (Mele Kalikimaka) and Happy New Year ( Hau'oli Makahiki Hou) to all!

Posted by: WylieWayne on Tuesday Dec 1, 2015 at 8:02 p.m. UTC

@scuderiateocalli Yes we definitely plan a change for 2016. Likely format is three driver picks, none from the same team. Other suggestions welcome! Bob, I'd be in that tie for first as well had I not purposefully changed my picks so as not to compete with Jimbo RIP.

Posted by: graham on Thursday Nov 19, 2015 at 6:27 p.m. UTC

One race to go -- and I will be happy when this season is over. My hats off to Ketchup, Isthisindycar, Matbarlow and Turbo Boy for being the best of the rest. Let me add that I hope Cracklyfinger changes the format next year so that one is forced to select a wider variety of drivers. Hamilton, Rosberg and Vettel, week after week, brings the points, but their excellence and consistency makes for a boring competition for us playing the game.

Posted by: scuderiateocalli on Wednesday Nov 18, 2015 at 8:05 p.m. UTC

WylieWayne: Congratulations on your excellent results for the Mexico Grand Prix. Have a margarita on us all!

Posted by: scuderiateocalli on Monday Nov 2, 2015 at 6:06 p.m. UTC

You are a good man, Graham.

(Anyone who has the nerve to break away from the Hamilton/Rosberg/Vettel trifecta has big cojones!)

Posted by: scuderiateocalli on Saturday Oct 31, 2015 at 12:32 p.m. UTC

I cannot believe nobody else picked Verstappen for the US Grand Prix!

Posted by: graham on Wednesday Oct 28, 2015 at 4:55 p.m. UTC

For those of you with a current point total of 666 -- be afraid, be very afraid. This is the work of the devil...

Posted by: scuderiateocalli on Friday Sep 25, 2015 at 2:13 p.m. UTC

Well, I just couldn't continue with the same drivers as our friend Jimbo. I've changed my driver guesses for the remaining races in the hopes Jimbo will take the fantasy league crown this season. #forzajim

Posted by: graham on Wednesday Sep 23, 2015 at 6:12 p.m. UTC

Kudos to WilyWayne as well...

Posted by: scuderiateocalli on Sunday Sep 6, 2015 at 8:49 p.m. UTC

Kudos to the lovely SuperBestFriends -- picking Sergio Perez was a bold move and it garnered her a higher score than all of us Hamilton/Rosberg/Vettel lemmings. When will those of us who play it safe race after race begin to take chances?

Posted by: scuderiateocalli on Sunday Sep 6, 2015 at 8:48 p.m. UTC

Well, let's see how the Belgian goes!

Posted by: WylieWayne on Saturday Aug 22, 2015 at 4:30 p.m. UTC

Well my plan failed miserable in Hungary to try and catch up a little. Not sure I can bring myself to believe enough in others to choose much a far of the norm..... :)

Posted by: WylieWayne on Wednesday Jul 29, 2015 at 1:25 p.m. UTC

Certainly with Massa's great start with Bottas's early push, the race had some interesting moments. All Mercedes power at the front. However, Team Mercedes prevailed again. Love the resurgence of Williams. USed to love to watch the Lion charged through the field some years ago. Guess we will see what new ownership might bring to F1? If it happens!

Posted by: WylieWayne on Wednesday Jul 8, 2015 at 1:39 p.m. UTC

Once again Scuderiateocalli salutes Wylie Wayne for selecting Bottas as well as 89TurboTA for the Massa pick and docsue and SuperBestFriends for going with Raikkonen. Like the racing in the middle of the pack being better than at the front (per WylieWayne), I think the points earned by these four who think outside the box is more deserving and more interesting to watch than the rest of us.

Posted by: scuderiateocalli on Monday Jul 6, 2015 at 1:51 p.m. UTC

It is not you! The last three - four minutes of qualifying and the first lap are just about it. There is more racing back in the pack..... LOL

Posted by: WylieWayne on Monday Jun 22, 2015 at 7:01 p.m. UTC

Congratulations to 89TurboTA and WylieWayne for earning points by picking someone other than the dominant three. Job well done. Is it just me, or is watching F1 this season getting to be about as boring as watching golf?

Posted by: scuderiateocalli on Sunday Jun 21, 2015 at 3:29 p.m. UTC

Of late, the issue of who to choose third is the key and there is no clear pick. As I missed the first week for a big 0, I am inclined to step out and make a pick, but alas who Kimi who seems to charge but something is not right, Ricardo who appears to be in lull?, Massa - no so who.... herein lies the issue. I would love to pick Alonso but Honda has a ways to go. So it is Williams or Ferrari and I like Bottas but can it repeat in Austria? Well let's hope so for my pride if nothing else.... LMAO

Posted by: WylieWayne on Tuesday Jun 9, 2015 at 4:36 p.m. UTC

Thanks @Jimbo!

Congratulations @SuperBestFriends on taking P1 for this race!

Posted by: graham on Tuesday Jun 9, 2015 at 4:20 a.m. UTC

Has anyone got the nerve to ditch Vettel and go to number one?

Posted by: Jimbo on Thursday Jun 4, 2015 at 4:43 a.m. UTC

@Graham HAPPY BIRTHDAY OLD MAN! Hope it was the best!

Posted by: Jimbo on Thursday May 28, 2015 at 5:43 a.m. UTC

Hi everyone, thanks for your thoughts about how to shake things up in this fantasy league. Your enthusiasm is contagious!

TL;DR - Chill.

Picking just one driver per team is a great idea, for next season.

I'm very reluctant to change the rules midway through this season like they do in the real F1. My feeling is we all understand Mercedes dominance, and that makes two picks quite simple. The key is your third pick. Vettel is doing well, Raikkonen is on the move too, and Bottas/Massa are an obvious threat. The key to winning this fantasy league season is sensing a change in form and accurately picking your third driver.

@Jimbo pointed out issues with switching the driver pick rules in mid-season and he is correct. Changing things now invites controversy and implementation problems, and I'm not a fan of either. We will keep the pick rules the same for the remainder of the season.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Nice race for Nico, that reminded me of a vintage Vettel / Red Bull performance.

What do you guys think about the fuel flow controversy? Was Ferrari hampered as a result of extra flow sensors added to the system?

Posted by: graham on Monday May 11, 2015 at 5:09 p.m. UTC

We now have 12 of our 15 participants with the same picks; only 3 are holding out. There was no change in position through the whole field. What a tie we have!

I'm SO happy for Nico. Hope his top spots on the podium continue. Go Nico!

@Ketchup-Look at the comment by Jimbo on Sunday Apr 12, 2015 That is where the suggestion for changes started. I still like 89TurboTA's suggestion the best but I don't know how hard it would be for the admin to make that change. For the time being, we are chilling out.

Posted by: Jimbo on Sunday May 10, 2015 at 6:18 p.m. UTC

I suggest no choosing the silver arrows at all. #FORZAJULES

Posted by: Ketchup on Saturday May 9, 2015 at 4:09 a.m. UTC

Well I am fine with the single person from team. I keep hoping that some parity would arise but alas not seeming too likely. Obviously the rise of some other teams into the mix would shake it up a bit but not likely to happen! So I am good with your call!

Posted by: WylieWayne on Tuesday May 5, 2015 at 9:47 p.m. UTC

I considered picking Kimi also,, I think we should " Chill-Out " for a few more races and see what happens ?? we should still discuss how to break this tie if it happens.

Posted by: HotRod on Monday May 4, 2015 at 5:14 a.m. UTC

@graham How hard would it be to create the "you can't pick two from the same team" feature? What if more than half of us say we wanna do it (this is a democracy right?) and then pickers who don't read this and don't read email pick 2 anyway? It's kinda complicated. Give 'em one, the highest score? Might get their attention.

Now there's only these guys to join the debate: F1Champ 4BktVet dahlio graham Ketchup isthisindycar matbarlow TurboBoy docsue WylieWayne

Posted by: Jimbo on Monday May 4, 2015 at 4:57 a.m. UTC

Both SuperBest Friends and Scuderiateocalli like the idea of being allowed only one driver per team for each race. This is especially true if the results for the upcoming race mirror the results from the first four...

Posted by: SuperBestFriends on Sunday May 3, 2015 at 8:19 a.m. UTC

@isthis No need Mate, just sleep in like I do! Shouldn't get up early on Sunday unless there's an earthquake.

Still almost another week until Spain. Arrrgh.

@graham I think we need to vote on whether we wanna vote on mid-season radical changes in the "Picking Rules". So far, I like 89turbota's idea better than mine or HotRod's. (Except the week early pic idea. That sucks! I like the Friday night challenge. Been goin' since 2009, eh)

Anybody?? Anybody read the Message Board? How do we break the 6-WAY tie? (I SO almost traded Seb for Kimi in Bahrain, HONEST! If I had, I wouldn't care about the tie any more!!) We've never had such a large tie go so long kids.

Come on! F1Champ 4BktVet dahlio scuderiateocalli graham Ketchup isthisindycar SuperBestFriends matbarlow TurboBoy docsue WylieWayne Got an idea or opinion?

Posted by: Jimbo on Saturday May 2, 2015 at 2:23 a.m. UTC

Hey J imbo,

I guess I'll gripe next time I go to see the results and there is nothing there...LOL Jeff

Posted by: isthisindycar on Friday May 1, 2015 at 9:44 p.m. UTC

Best idea yet 89! Certainly would bust up the top 6 in a few races I'm thinking.

BUT, I'm NOT signing up for week-in-advance! You gotta get some credit for paying attention.

LOL-I can see why you're encouraging indy to do 6-10. If I'm not mistaken, one of your picks came in #10 last race. You were the only guy to benefit from my observant corrections.

Posted by: Jimbo on Saturday Apr 25, 2015 at 6:24 a.m. UTC

"My proposal is to make a new regulation that would force a fantasy participant to change one of his or her pics at least once during the season. ?? HotRod"

I like the idea of making each participant choose only one driver per race team. This would make the fantasy side of thing interesting again because picking Hamilton, Rosberg, and Vettel gets boring. Then, only allow picks one week in advance. Puts pressure on us drinkers to get the picks in before we pass out ;)

@ isthisindycar, I propose to enter only positions 6-10 to make Jimbos head explode.

Posted by: 89TurboTA on Friday Apr 24, 2015 at 11:14 a.m. UTC

Just telling you what I really think. The logic escapes me. Why just put the top 5? Once you've committed, once you take that bite, you gotta finish 'er off. So nanee nanee!

Posted by: Jimbo on Tuesday Apr 21, 2015 at 1:48 a.m. UTC

Geez...doesn't take much to get you excited, does it Jimbo?!

Posted by: isthisindycar on Tuesday Apr 21, 2015 at 1:36 a.m. UTC

@admin isthisindycar should be blocked from entering results! This is the 2nd time he can only figure out how to enter the top 5.This is NOT Indycar!

Posted by: Jimbo on Monday Apr 20, 2015 at 7:13 p.m. UTC

We got 11 50's in Bahrain, but only one 58. Go SuperBestFriends!

Posted by: Jimbo on Sunday Apr 19, 2015 at 11:28 p.m. UTC

My proposal is to make a new regulation that would force a fantasy participant to change one of his or her pics at least once during the season. ?? HotRod

Posted by: HotRod on Thursday Apr 16, 2015 at 2:37 a.m. UTC

We had 6 58's the first race. 9 by the 2nd and we had 11 58's for this race! Gotta be a record number of perfect scores. Will the other 4 players come over by the next race?

Maybe from here on out, you get zero points for Lewis or Nico and no one would pick them. What else? Ideas?

Posted by: Jimbo on Sunday Apr 12, 2015 at 7:56 a.m. UTC

The 6-way tie at the top continues. We had a 6-way tie on the first race back in 2013 but by the 2nd race, the top 3 were separate. (There were 3 other ties below the top 3 including a 9-way tie for 10th!)

So good to see some competition for the Silver Arrows. Sure glad I didn't trade Vettel in on Fernando. Looks it will be a while before they get the Honda motor competitive. Dandy race, I give it a thumbs up!!

FORZAJULES

Posted by: Ketchup on Friday Mar 27, 2015 at 4:10 a.m. UTC

Predictable, indeed, with six of us all scoring maximum points.

I still hate the sound of the new "power units."

Posted by: scuderiateocalli on Sunday Mar 15, 2015 at 5:48 p.m. UTC

Off to a predictable start.

Posted by: 4BktVet on Sunday Mar 15, 2015 at 2:31 p.m. UTC

My guesses:

Honda engines will struggle in the first half of the season, effectively torpedoing McLaren's title chances. Giedo van der Garde will get paid off and never race in Formula One again. One of the five rookies will get on the podium. Max Verstappen will kick ass.

Posted by: graham on Friday Mar 13, 2015 at 7:21 p.m. UTC

Another season, more drama, familiar faces in different driving suits....should be fun! Any bets on how the Honda engines do?
